Roanoke, Jamestown, and Plymouth
Recently, our history studies in 10-2 have focused on the
first English colonies in North America.
We have had several insightful discussions about the settlements of
Roanoke Island, Jamestown, and Plymouth.
The boys have learned many interesting facts about each of these settlements,
and even attended a virtual “field trip” to Plimoth Plantation. Through the Jamestown Online Adventure, students
are also able to play the role of “captain” of the Jamestown colony and test
their decision-making skills. In addition,
the boys are currently writing a composition describing the purpose, founders,
and early years of these two important settlements.

Calvert Toy Drive
As a reminder, this week is Calvert’s annual Community Outreach Toy Drive. We will be collecting new and gently used toys to donate to our outreach partners, including the Hampden Family Center, Paul's Place, and some other local organizations that serve the less fortunate. If you would like to participate in this all school drive, please send in a donation this week. Gifts should be unwrapped. Donation boxes will be located in the Luetkemeyer Lobby for Lower School students, and in the Lower Lobby outside the Black Box Theater for Middle School students.

Tenth Age Study Tools
As an additional study tool for our Chapter 1 Geography test, students may click on the following links to access quizlet for Chapter 1 and Map Skills vocabulary. Using these "virtual flashcards," the boys can play a variety of review games to prepare for the test. Spelling City is another great online resource, which can be used to help students review for their weekly spelling tests. After entering their words into the site, the boys will have access to a wide variety of helpful review activities and interactive games.

Pilot Buddies
Recently, the 10-2 boys met with their Pilot
buddies for the first time. The Tenth Agers read stories about
pumpkins, farms, and other fall-themed topics to their Pilot friends.
Many of the 10-2 boys also reminisced about their own experience in the
Pilot wing. We are looking forward to many more exciting visits with
Pilot A!

Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center
Students prepare for their climbing and wire bridge activities.
The rope cocoon proved to be quite challenging...
...but communication and teamwork resulted in success!
Tenth Agers thank the Genesee Valley staff at the end of the day.
On Friday, September 28, the Tenth Age classes traveled to the Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center in Parkton, Maryland. A gorgeous day and sprawling fields provided the backdrop for an array of outdoor activities emphasizing teamwork and problem solving. The boys and girls played a variety of group games, tackled team challenges, and enjoyed a picnic lunch. Some of the highlights included navigating through a "rope cocoon", scaling a climbing wall, and traversing wire bridges. Each of the students challenged themselves and encouraged their classmates. What an exciting and wonderful day!
