A Visit to Gettysburg
The Tenth Agers recently visited Gettysburg, and were transported "back in time" for the day as they learned about the famous three-day battle. Students began the day with a scavenger hunt through the Visitor's Center Museum, which includes six galleries filled with a wide array of Civil War artifacts. The boys were also able to watch short films on the causes of the war, each of the three
days of the Battle of Gettysburg, and the results of the war. The battlefield tour was led by our guide, Michael, who shared a wealth of information and many poignant stories about the battle. One of the highlights included a role play of a "cannon crew," as the boys learned about the difficulty of using this weapon during the war. Here are some more snapshots of the day's events...
The "cannon crew" awaits their instructions from Michael.
When the cannon fires, be sure to cover your ears!

"Designing Colonies" in 10-1 and 10-2
After completing our study of the New England, Middle, and Southern Colonies in history class, the 10-1 and 10-2 boys started a group project entitled, “Design a Colony.” Each group has worked on planning and designing their own colony, which would fit into one of the three regions we studied. The boys have completed a variety of activities including building three-dimension models, drawing detailed maps, and designing advertisements to attract potential settlers. Some groups also chose to create a colony flag write a song to represent their settlement. Mr. Mascuch and I are very excited to see all of the finished products!
